Member of Family: Nymphalidae

French common name: Amiral à taches rouges

This butterfly is a southern subspecies of the White Admiral. However, because its appearance is so markedly different, and because it was treated as a separate species in the past, it is included here as though it were one. As far as I know, it has never been assigned a French common name distinct from that of the White Admiral, so we've coined one.

It is only found occasionally in the extreme south of Quebec.
